According to South Sudan Human Resource Plan for 2018, “it is estimated nearly 4.8 million South Sudanese people and 304,560 refugees need humanitarian health services in 2018. The population is highly susceptible to disease and war-related injuries. Communicable diseases and disease outbreaks are matters of concern in South Sudan.

The nutrition situation has continued to deteriorate from 2015 onward, this has been due to growing severe food insecurity and a high disease burden among people affected. Only 18 per cent of SMART surveys conducted in 2017 did not report emergency critical levels of global acute malnutrition (GAM), but up from 77 per cent in 2016 were rank into critical level.

According to relevant stakeholders forum there have been call for collaboration and integration of services where Health, Nutrition partners, to collaborate with food security and livelihoods, WASH, education and protection in order to provide integrated services along the continuum of care.

Islamic relief South Sudan (IRSS) had history of implementing health and nutrition services in Tonj state  by the year 2004 before independence. Due to the current Humanitarian need for health & nutrition support, IRSS in support of IR partners, Institutional donors and Lead agencies has embarked in provision of the emergency health and nutrition services in Wau- Bazia, Bagari, Mboro, Ngisa and Kapoeta County.

The nutrition services has been through Outpatient therapeutic programme (OTP) for children below the age of 5 years and supplementary feeding programming (SFP) for the Under 5 years (U5) and Pregnant and lactating women (PLW). In the health the target has been emergency primary health care support, either through out-reach services, Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) or Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) based on humanitarian and South Sudan Response Context.

The target area of operation is Western Bar-Gha zal; Eastern Equatorial and Tonj. With objective to improve access to health, nutrition, water and shelter protection. Islamic relief have screened and treated more than 1500 Malnourish cases from 2017 and its gradually increasing it support to a target of more than 75,000 persons, by the year 2018 in the three mention site.
